Meet Matt Nagy with Schooley Mitchell
On this week's episode of The LivLocal Show we sit down with Matt Nagy of Schooley Mitchell and learn about their program to reduce expenses for small and medium size businesses and enabling them to have the funds to hire, market and grow as needed. Their system utilizes proprietary information to compare your rates to that of industry standards and are able to negotiate on your behalf to ensure the big brands aren't overcharging your business.
Describe your business
I help businesses save time and money by helping to negotiate better terms with vendors as well as provide ongoing monitoring of their bills. We are paid solely from found savings so we cannot have a negative impact on your bottom line
What made you decide to open this business?
Spent 15 years in the Financial Services world and when I was looking to start my own business I liked the concept of only being a benefit to businesses and helping Small to Mid Sized businesses improve their bottom line.
How did you get started?
I bought my franchise right before CoVid started.
Why did you choose this profession?
I liked the value proposition of helping small to mid-sized businesses.
What drives you to do what you do? What motivates you?
The more businesses that I meet the more I see the benefit to what I do. Most small businesses to not have the time or resources to secure the best pricing with vendors and most bills are purposefully complicated to help the vendor. Helping a business save money that can be used to hire more people, provide benefits or help them grow is very fulfilling.
What has surprised you most when owning a business?
The biggest surprise has been how isolating working for yourself can be. Leaving a corporate job where other people who do similar jobs can help you solve problems has been something that I miss.
What was it like when you first started?
It was very difficult but it is hard to sort out the timing of starting a business and also the start of a Pandemic as they happened at the same time.
What is something most people don't know about the business?
80% of the time we help businesses save money with their current vendor but we only provide options and never tell anyone what to do. The final say of go or no go is with the client.
What would your customers say they love most about your business?
We are a risk free business in that we can only help an organization. Our worst case scenario is we do not get paid because we cannot find savings. In that case the business gets the assurance they are not being overcharged.
What are your goals over the next year?
To continue to grow and build my business and help my clients save over 200k per year.
What are your greatest challenges?
The hardest part of my job is doing the fact finding to make sure we are making an apples to apples comparison for the business.
What are your favorite restaurants in the neighborhood?
Having young kids we have not eaten out much recently but our favorite place to order from is Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, they have phenomenal fried chicken.
What is something most people don't know about you?
I have been to 46 states.
Why do you think it's important for people to shop local?
The value of your dollar is better spent locally as you can see how the money circulates and helps to support the community.
What are some of the highest highs you've had in life so far?
Being a father to two young girls (3 and 1) has been my greatest joy. I used to travel for work all the time and I am glad I get to be around to watch them grow up.
What is your most memorable customer experience?
The look on someones face when you tell them how much they could save without changing a thing to their operation can be really enjoyable. My most memorable one was having someone initial a piece of paper and immediately they started savings 20k per year.
Where are your favorite places to go in the neighborhood?
Right now it is mainly different playgrounds with my daughters.
Anything exciting going on that customers should know about?
With high inflation most people are seeing their bills increase as well. Now is a great time to have an impartial set of eyes look at your bills as most “inflation increases” to bills are made up and can be negotiated.
What does the future hold for you?
Hopefully lots of tea parties, swings and slides with my girls.
